Over a billion lucky people spend a considerable amount of time logging into their own personal profiles and this number is rising every single day. Apparently Twitter alone has over 500,000 new members every 24 hours and Facebook has even more! So what does this have to do with your business I hear you grumble? Well, pretty much everything actually! These individuals collectively make up the biggest social network even seen by mankind, and they like to share their points of view on most matters. Just imagine if the flavour of the day was your small or medium business, the potential for growth would be astronomical! But, before any of this can happen, you’ll need to make the first move. How A Blog Works
A typical blog is usually an extension of a business website with a more personal touch. They are usually set out as diaries and are regularly updated in the same way. The blog content can be pretty diverse and doesn’t always have to be about the business concerns. The name of the game is to attract as many followers as possible and the way to do this is to choose some interesting titles and try and capture the imagination of your potential public.
There are hundreds of thousands of blogs in cyberspace and most of them are trying to attract followers, so you’ll need to make yours a little special if you want to compete on this immense stage. Think about some funny videos that will make your followers laugh and try to spark some interesting debates that will run for a while. It is a good idea to pick a topic for your blog that will appeal to the typical web surfer. Use some slang words if you’re trying to attract a younger crowd and think about tech-speak if you are after a geeky element.
As well as some catchy titles, the sure fire way to ensure that your blog is high on the search engine results is to use keywords in the content. The best way to do this is to regularly check which keywords are the flavour of the day, and you can do this by looking on various sites such as Google’s Adwords or Wordtracker. Try not to overdo this aspect as people do not enjoy reading a post that is stuffed with keywords.
Once you have established your blog, and this can take some time, ensure that you do not let it stagnate. Check in every day and always answer any queries you may have. If your followers feel that you are ignoring them, they will soon respond in kind. After a while this should become second nature and you will be repaid for your efforts by a faithful crowd.
Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was a successful blog, but as long as you put the effort in you can slowly introduce your business website and a small trickle of traffic will eventually turn into a mighty river – hopefully!
