The 3rd beta of Apple’s iOS 7 was released on July 8, 2013 and provided numerous improvements. There have also been a fair few bug fixes, including the issue surrounding double notifications, as well as the problems with AirPlay. However, there needs to be a lot more done for this release, as there was a great deal of anger surrounding some of the so called “improvements to iOS 6. In fact, one of the biggest issues around iOS 6 was the fact that it decided to install Apple Maps as opposed to the renowned Google version.

Unfortunately, this move seemed to alienate the vast majority of non-US iPhone users. If you happen to live in a major US city the maps system caused no problems whatsoever, but other countries experienced pixelated and blurry images that simply didn’t make any sense. This, of course, was great news for Android, as many place names and directions for Apple Maps outside of the US were decades out of date and therefore useless.

  • The fonts appear to have been redesigned and are using Helvetica Neue Regular, which makes them far thicker and potentially easier to read. This is instantly noticeable within a number of apps, including Messages, Settings, Weather and the Notification Center.
  • The Status Bar is now bigger making it far easier to read when the screen is locked. So, you can easily figure out how much battery life you have left and how good the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection is without having to squint your eyes.

  • If you happen to be playing music you will notice that you can still view the time even whilst the screen is locked.
  • There are a number of new icons and the controls have been moved around within the Music app.
  • The Podcast app finally works and is now fully functional.
  • You will notice a number of grey dots on the Calendar app which signify that there is a scheduled event on that day.
  • If you happen to be downloading something to your iOS device you no longer have to view the boring download bars, which have now been replaced with an animated timer.
